The Liberal Redskins finished second at the Tascosa Wrestling Tournament, dropping the title dual to Altus, Okla.

Liberal earned five wins at the event before losing the final match.

The Redskins opened with a 49-36 win over Hereford and then dismantled Borger, 54-33.

The Redskins dominated Vernon, Texas, 81-6 to round out the first day of the tournament at a perfect 3-0.

On Day 2, Liberal defeated Robertson, N.M., 52-19, and then knocked off host Tascosa 57-28.

In the finals, Liberal struggled to a 60-13 loss to Altus.

“The guys wrestled pretty well except the match with Altus,” Liberal coach Mike Pewthers said. “I was a little disappointed because we were close in about five or six matches and lost.”

Pewthers might have had mixed emotions in the loss since Altus is his alma mater.
