BIG BOW – Ethel Ruth Michael Seger, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, from the effects of Alzheimers.
She was born Jan. 28, 1925, to Mark Elmer and Rose Ann Adeline Watson Michael in the homestead home on Goodman Route, McDonald County, Mo.
She married Robert Allan “Bob” Segar Aug. 6, 1950, in Meade. He survives.
After high school graduation in 1943, she worked as a secretary at Camp Crowder in Neosho, Mo. In July of 1947, She worked at the Satanta Coffee Shop. By January of 1948, She later worked for F&M Telephone Company, REA, Bon Ton Café and Schneider Implement Company. She then worked for Burtis-Nunn Implement Company and drove cars for Tri-R Sales Company. December 1949, she took the job of bookkeeper for Wolfe Motor Company in Meade. She worked from home for many years as a bookkeeper and then had Ruth’s Bookkeeping and Income Tax Service and Variety Haus in Ulysses. She was an agent for Farmer’s Insurance for a time. She was also a representative for United Investors and for Waddell and Reed.
She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1955.
She was active in PTA, 4-H and women’s organizations.
She is also survived by eight children and their spouses, Karen (Fred) Clyde, Hurricane, Utah, Bobbie Seger, Cheryl (Ron) Hale, and Robert (Sandi) Seger, all of Johnson, Kathy (Mel) Mortensen of Rexburg, Idaho, and Earl (Charla) Seger, Merl (Leasa) Seger of Ulysses, and Verl (Lori) Seger, Richmond, Texas; 45 grandchildren; and 74 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Mark Allan Seger; 14 siblings; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
o Funeral services will be at 10 a.m Saturday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at Baughman and Maize, Ulysses.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery.
A viewing will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home and from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
