A second quarter offensive explosion by Hooker helped the Bulldogs avenge the Beaver Dusters for a season opening loss. Mostly because of that quarter Hooker whipped the Dusters, 69-47.
After gaining a slim 8-6 lead in the first, Hooker exploded for 28 points in the second to take a commanding 36-20 lead at half.
Joe Bean ended the half with an exclamation point when he drained a shot from half court as the buzzer sounded.
Beaver struggled throughout the game with self-inflicted turnovers and missed shots.
Gabe Morales led the Bulldogs second quarter surge, nailing two threes and scoreing 12 of his 16 points in the quarter. Joe Bean scored 12 of his game-high 21 in the first half. Bean got to the line in the first half making 7 of 8. Taylor McBee added 8. A total of 12 different Bulldogs scored.
Hooker had a 14-10 scoring advantage in the third quarter to take a 50-30 lead into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs added two more to their lead, outscoring Beaver 19-17.
Jorge Rivera was the top scorer for the Dusters. Rivera scored 8 in the third quarter to finish with 10. Austin Ingalls hit three 3-pointers, all in the fourth quarter.
Beaver’s leading scorer, Garrett Weber, was saddled with early foul trouble and was held to just one free throw and no made field goals. Kalen Gabel was limited to just 4 points.
Hooker (13-3) will take on Hardesty at 12:15 p.m. tomorrow in the first round of the Texhoma Tournament.
Beaver (10-5) will face Shattuck at 5:15 p.m. tomorrow in the first round of the Buffalo Tournament.
