The Hooker Bulldogs advanced to the finals of the Texhoma Tournament with an impressive showing against the Turpin Cardinals, winning 57-36.
After taking a 13-9 lead in the first quarter, Hooker took complete control of the game with a 21-6 second quarter that put the Bulldogs up comfortably at half, 34-15.
Hooker increased their lead to 23 by the end of the third with an 11-7 advantage in the quarter.
Turpin won the fourth 14-11, but it was too little too late for the Cardinals.
Hooker’s Chad Kennedy was the game’s only player to reach double figures with 14; John Godfrey scored 9, and Hayden Ukens added 8. Nine different Bulldogs scored.
Edgar Anchondo scored 8 for Turpin, and seven other players scored.
Hooker (15-3) faced county-rival Texhoma (13-6), who defeated Tyrone 69-58 in their semi-final matchup.
Turpin (7-11) took on Tyrone (16-2) for third place.
Texhoma 56, Hooker 28
The Hooker Lady Bulldogs fell behind early and could never recover, losing to the Texhoma Red Devils 56-28.
It was as though one team was ready to play, and the other was not, as Texhoma jumped out to a 17-2 first quarter lead.
Hooker seemed to at least balance the ship in the second quarter, but Texhoma still kept an 11-10 advantage in the quarter to take a commanding 28-12 lead at halftime.
Texhoma blew away any hopes of a Lady Dawgs comeback in the third, outscoring Hooker 18-7 to go up by 27 (46-19).
Texhoma held a 10-9 advantage in the fourth to double-up the Lady Bulldogs and advance to Saturday’s championship.
Miriana Cervantes was the lone bright spot for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring a game-high 17 points.
Hooker (13-5) took on Boise City (13-5) Saturday afternoon in the girls third place game.
