The Lady Dusters picked up their defense in the second half of the third place game at the Buffalo Invitational. Beaver held Laverne to just 17 second-half points to come from behind to win 54-45.
Beaver led 15-11 after one quarter of play, but a 17-9 swing in the second in Laverne's favor put the Lady Tigers up 28-24 at half.
Beaver returned the favor in the third, outscoring Laverne 16-9 to regain a 3-point lead (40-37) heading into the fourth.
Beaver increased their lead with a 14-8 advantage to win by nine.
Shelby Perry led the Lady Dusters with 18; Jacinda Balderrama added 15.
Beaver (8-11) will travel to Boise City Tuesday.
Laverne 81, Beaver 40
Little went well for the Beaver Dusters in Saturday's boys third place matchup of the Buffalo Invitational with Laverne. The Tigers pounded Beaver 81-40.
Beaver trailed 37-23 at the break, and things got worse in the second half.
Laverne outscored Beaver 23-5 in the third to go up 60-28 heading into the fourth.
A 21-8 advantage for the Tigers in the fourth made the final margin 41.
Logan Baldwin was the only Duster to reach double figures with 10.
Beaver (11-7) will try to regroup Tuesday at Boise City.
