BEAVER, Okla., — When the Forgan Bulldogs have been ‘on’ the last few seasons; there is little an opponent can do to stop them. Saturday night Forgan put on such a display, dismantling the Beaver Dusters, 82-50.
“We played really well,” Bulldogs coach Todd Kerr said. “I think they got in their half court set maybe two times in the first half. We just kept the pressure on. We moved it and shot it well. We got comfortable early and they got uncomfortable and it snowballed.”
Forgan’s first half was a work of art. First, a 7-0 run to start the game, and an 8-0 run to go up 23-9. By the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs led 29-15. Beaver played well, and made 7 of their 11 first quarter field goals. Forgan finished the first quarter 12 of 19 from the field.
Jake Regier scored 12 of his 14 in the first quarter, and the other two in the second quarter. Regier was 4 of 5 from inside the arc, and 2 of 4 from beyond it for the game.
Forgan turned up the defensive pressure even higher in the second quarter, and allowed Beaver only four field goal attempts and no free throws. Meanwhile the Bulldog’s offense was still in high gear, hitting 8 of 12 field goals to take a 49-19 lead at half.
Chandler Bryer scored half of his 20 points in the second quarter, 17 in the first half. Bryer finished 4 of 7 from 2-point range, 3 of 3 from 3-point, and 3 of 4 from the line.
“We turned the ball over too much,” Dusters coach Garrett Bebermeyer said. “But I told them at half, we’re not playing that bad. When Forgan is on I don’t know how you defend them. You man them and they’ll go right past you, and if you zone they’ll shoot it right over you. When they’re hitting shots, they’re a tough team for anybody to beat.”
Early in the third, Forgan went on another 8-0 run to go up 37 (62-25) with 4:45 left, and played their bench exclusively the rest of the way.
A total of 11 Bulldogs scored. Kameron Hall, Cameron Vanatta, and David Stout each added 8; Dalton Lemieux and Demetrius Alston scored 7.
Garrett Weber led the Dusters with 16 points on 6 of 9 field goal shooting, and 4 of 4 shooting at the free throw line. Jorge Rivera scored 9, Kalen Gabel 8, and Ryan Nash 7.
Forgan (21-1) will travel to Texhoma Tuesday; Beaver (11-10) will be at Southwestern Heights (10-5).
