When Seward opened the Jayhawk West season Jan. 5, the Saints were stunned by the Barton County Cougars, 79-66 in the Green House.
Saturday, Seward returned the favor. The Saints traveled to Great Bend and earned a 71-60 win to even the season series and moved a game ahead of the Cougars in the league standings.
Seward wasted no time in building a lead with the long-range shot. The Saints knocked down seven three-pointers in the first half to go along with four two-point shots and four free throws for a 33-22 lead.
Seward backed off from the long shots in the second half and spent most of the time at the free throw line.
Seward attempted 29 free throws and made 17 while pounding the ball inside and slashing through the lane.
Jabari Peters was one rebound away from a double-double. Peters scored 20 points including four three-pointers and eight of nine free throws, and he also collected nine rebounds.
Kaheem Ransom scored 19, Edson Avila had 16, and Malcolm Hill-Bey added 12.
Seward (16-7, 7-2) will return to the Green House Wednesday at 8 p.m. to host Colby (11-12, 2-7).
