GUYMON, Okla. — For a quarter-and-a-half, the Lady Redskins had their way with the Guymon Lady Tigers including eight from Marisol Regalado in the first quarter.
But when the Lady Tigers packed their defense inside, Regalado only managed five points the rest of the game, and the Lady Redskins ended their dominance over Guymon in a 60-40 loss.
Liberal jumped out to a 25-13 lead midway through the second quarter before the Lady Tigers forced the Lady Redskins to shoot outside shots.
With Megan Besecker out of the line-up due to illness, Liberal struggled to find a consistent outside threat. With three-pointers missing, Guymon tracked down long rebounds and used a transition game to erase the 12-point Lady Redskin lead.
The Lady Tigers took their first lead with 3:45 to play in the third quarter, and Liberal was outscored 21-6 in the fourth.
“They packed it in, fronted Marisol and put someone behind her,” Liberal coach Bill Baird said. “You have to make shots when that happens. We have had six games where we led at halftime and let them slip away. I take responsibility for that.”
Regalado led Liberal with 13 points, Jai Chapman scored 11, and Kambrie Long had seven.
Liberal will travel to Hays Friday.
