MEADE – H. Leonard Eckhoff, 84, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Lone Tree Retirement Center in Meade.
He was born Aug. 10, 1928, to Martin and Nora (Feldman) Eckhoff in Meade.
He attended the Meade school system, graduating from Meade High School in 1946.
After his graduation, he began working for the Ideal Grocery Store, Meade. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict for a year in the ammunition supply area of service. He later began his career as a grocery clerk at Randy’s Market, later becoming a co-owner for the last 16 of his 38 years in the grocery business.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3166, Liberal and a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Meade.
He is survived by a brother, Dean Eckhoff, Wichita; a sister, Elsie Kane, Meade; and eight nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Chester “Hap” Eckhoff; and a nephew, Gary Kane.
• Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Graceland Cemetery, Meade, with the Rev. Lynn E. Spencer presiding.
Burial will follow military services at the cemetery.
Friends may call until 5 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, to sign the guest register. The casket will remain closed.
