The Southwestern Heights Lady Mustangs played stellar defense and dominated the boards in a win over South Gray, 45-27.
Heights defense was on high alert from the opening tipoff and allowed South Gray just two points in the first quarter, taking a 9-2 lead.
The second and third quarters were played much tighter with the Lady Mustangs scoring one more point in the second (10-9) and one more in the third (8-7).
Heights doubled-up South Gray in the fourth, 18-9 to win by 18.
Heights made only 28 percent of their field goals compared to 35 percent for South Gray. But Heights took 53 shots to just 34 for South Gray.
The Lady Mustangs outrebounded South Gray 36-22, including 18 on the offensive glass. This helped Heights get to the line where they were 14 of 20 compared to just 2 of 7 for South Gray.
Heights defense forced 18 turnovers and grabbed 14 steals as well.
Nayelly LaPoint scored 17, including 8 in the fourth. LaPoint was 7 of 13 from the field with 7 rebounds, and 6 steals.
Ivon Amparon scored 14 on 5 of 12 shooting, and Jackie Loya grabbed 10 rebounds and 4 steals.
Southwestern Heights (10-7) will host Meade Tuesday night.
