Leader & Times

Despite playing on a Friday and two hours earlier than normal, the Lady Saints and Saints were able to stay focused and sweep Pratt to stay in the race for the Jayhawk West title.

The Lady Saints put the ball in the hands of Fabiana Monte and Madison McLain, and the pair did not disappoint. Monte scored 27 and McLain scored 25 in an 84-67 win.

Even though the duo combined for 52 of Seward’s 84 points, that did not stop Ricquia Jones and Kelsey Blair from reaching double digits. Jones scored 14 and Blair added 13 in the win.

For the second straight game, Seward limited its turnovers to only 15, and while Pratt also only turned the ball over 15 times and had a slight rebound advantage (42-39), the Lady Saints were able to shoot lights out form beyond the arc, landing 12 three-pointers on 52 percent shooting form outside. Seward also landed 16 of 17 free throw attempts in the win.

Saints 71, Beaver 59

Seward had to fight off a strong first half from the Beavers before walking away with a 71-59 win.

Pratt only took seven three-pointers in the first half, but they made six of them. With an 86 percent shooting effort beyond the arc and a 67 percent overall in the first half, Pratt only trailed the Saints by one at half.

But the well ran dry for the Beavers in the second half. Pratt attempted 14 more three pointers in the final 20 minutes and only made one of them.

While Pratt was dying from outside, the Saints were living it up inside. Seward pushed the ball to the paint to shoot 48 percent in the second half and jumping out to a 17-point lead.

Kaheem Ransom set the pace for the Saints by scoring 25 points in the win. Edson Avila added 15 points on eight shots, and Jabari Peters scored 13.

Seward will return to the Green House Monday to host Cloud County. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
