Tyrone tops Balko for district title PDF Print E-mail

The Tyrone Bobcats faced a familiar foe for the district title Saturday night, the Balko Bison. The Bobcats defeated the Bison for the fifth time this season to capture the district crown with a 67-60 win.

Payson Slater led the Bobcats with 23 points; Austin Olivas scored 13, and Ethan Reece added 12.

Grady Frantz led the way for Balko’s offense with 16; Justin Mays scored 13, and Clay Casper added 11.

Tyrone took the lead early in the game, and led 19-11 at the end of the first. The Bobcats added to their lead in the second with a 19-16 advantage to take a 38-27 lead into halftime.

The Bobcats added two more to their lead in the third, to lead by 11 heading into the final stanza.

Balko outscored Tyrone 21-17 in the fourth, but fell seven short of the Bobcats.

Tyrone (20-2) will face Felt at Boise City Thursday in the winner’s bracket of the regional playoffs. Balko will take on Boise City Thursday at Boise City with the loser being eliminated from the playoffs.

Balko 74, Hardesty 23 (girls)

The No.5 Balko Lady Bison crushed Hardesty for the district title Saturday night at Balko School.

Balko led 22-0 at the end of the first quarter, and 42-4 at half. By the end of the third, Balko led by 55 points (66-11).

Jaylee Mays scored 22 to lead Balko. Madison Dearmin scored 12 and Rylee Stockton added 11.

Balko (22-2) will take on Boise City Thursday at Boise City in the winner’s bracket of the regional tournament
