ELKHART – Velma Pearl Coen, 97, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart.
She was born Dec. 9, 1915, to Alford and Pearl (Keesling) German in Stafford County.
She married M.R. Coen May 15, 1938, in Richfield. He preceded her in death.
She enjoyed helping M.R. on the farm, and they both had a love for traveling. She was a story teller and enjoyed the poems she wrote. She also loved to draw. She also had a love for animals, especially horses.
She is survived by her son, Larry Coen and wife, Mary, Elkhart; four grandchildren, Troy Coen and wife, Cassie, Brenda Bloyd and husband, Troy, Loren Coen and wife, Rhonda, and Jaclyn Lee and husband, Jess; and seven great-grandchildren, Levi Coen, Luke Bloyd, Taylor Coen, Bryton Coen, Lynsay Bloyd, Cody Coen and Cap Lee.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Alford and Pearl; sister, Opal Miller; and infant brother, Delmer.
• Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Elkhart, with Pastor Terrell Giddens presiding.
Burial will follow at the Rolla Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.
