The second-ranked Cimarron Lady Bluejays showed why they have earned such a lofty ranking by overwhelming the Southwestern Heights Lady Mustangs, 55-26.

Cimarron dominated both ends of the floor from the opening tip, taking a 19-4 lead by the end of the first quarter.

By halftime, Cimarron had outscored Heights by more than a 3-to-1 margin (32-10).

After three quarters the lead was 28 (43-15), and widened to 29 by game’s end.

Heights was held to just 23 percent shooting from the field while Cimarron connected on 53 percent of their shots inside the arc. Heights lost the battle on the boards 27-19, and the turnover battle, 22-11.

Ivon Amparon and Tiana Couch each scored 8. Nayelly LaPoint and Jackie Loya each grabbed 5 rebounds, but only combined for 3 points, all at the foul line.

Heights (11-9) will host Chaparral today at 6 p.m. in the first round of Class 3A Sub-State.
