The third time was no charm for the Liberal Redskins Saturday.
Hays earned the sweep over the Redskins with a 73-64 Sub-State championship win, ending Liberal’s season at 8-14 and denying Liberal a return to the state tournament.
Liberal fell behind early, trailing 12-2, but rallied to get the deficit down to four with only four minutes to play.
The Redskins could not get any closer and fell 73-64, their third loss of the season to Hays.
Liberal’s JJ Lewis ended his career with a 22-point effort in the Sub-State championship, and William Ross finished his career with 18 points in his final game.
Blake Stout scored 12.
The Redskins ended their season with an 8-14 record and a Sub-State runner-up finish.
