A seven-run second inning got the Tyrone Bobcats season kick-started as they cruised their way to a 16-6 win.

“I thought the main thing was our pitching,” Bobcats skipper Clay Witt said. “With only one day of practice after a long basketball season and all the snow, I told them I did not want anything special, at least 75 percent fastballs. Throw strikes.”

Cole Wall got the start and pitched two innings and gave up one run. Payson Slater was wild to start and gave up walks that led to two runs, but settled in after that. Nerlin Rivera pitched the fifth.

“He (Rivera) through strikes, but when they put it in play we kicked it around,” Witt said.

Tyrone scored three in the top of the third to make the score 10-1, and led 16-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

“No one was a big standout on offense by themselves,” Witt said. “Everybody did a good job of just putting the ball in play. I just appreciate Guymon letting us come and play an early game,” he continued. “It had a scrimmage feel to it, but that is what both teams needed, we needed to get out on the field and play.”

Tyrone does not have another game scheduled until March 26th again against the Guymon JV, but is still looking to pick up a game or two between now and then.
