Obituary

In Loving Memory

Geneva made her transition to Heaven on February 23, 2013.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years Myron (Jack) Herndon, eldest son Jack Herndon Jr., her parents, and all eight brothers and sisters.

Geneva was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.  She was born in Rosston, Oklahoma on September 19, 1923, to Sylvanus and Ida Love, the youngest of nine. She grew up on a farm outside of  Laverne, Oklahoma and attended schools in the country school house in her early school years and graduated from Laverne High School in 1943.  She followed graduation with a move to Perryton, Texas where she became a nurse’s aid at the Ochiltree County Hospital.  While working there in Perryton, she met the love of her life Jack while he was home on leave from the Army.  After a whirlwind romance they married on February 4, 1944. A few years after Jack got out of the Army, they made their move to Liberal, Kansas where Jack worked for the Chevrolet dealership and Geneva was a homemaker.  After her children were grown and entering college, Geneva worked for several years as cashier in the Liberal High School cafeteria. She and Jack spent most of their 56 years of marriage in Liberal.  Jack passed in 2000 and Geneva made the move to Katy, Texas in 2001, to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Geneva is survived by her son, Wendell Herndon and wife Mary of Burleson, TX, her daughter, Beverly Skiles and husband Mike, of Katy, TX, eight grandchildren, Eric Herndon and wife Erika, of Oklahoma City, OK, Matt Herndon and wife Merri, of Fayetteville, AR, Nick Herndon and Greg Herndon, of Burleson, Texas, Chris Skiles and wife Sabrina, of Houston, TX, Stephanie Skiles, of Houston, TX,  Samantha Skiles and Cody Skiles of Katy, Texas.  Three great grandchildren, Mason Herndon and Miller Herndon of Fayetteville, AR, and Evan Herndon, of Oklahoma City, OK.

• A celebration of  Geneva’s life is being planned later this spring in Liberal, and she will be reunited with her husband in the Liberal Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to her daughter Beverly Skiles, 1931 Shadow Forest Dr., Katy, TX 77494 or her son, Wendell Herndon, 600 Crestwood Court, Burleson, TX 76028.
