Frances Elizabeth (Greer) Raines, 86, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Hospice House of Kansas City.
She was born Dec. 10, 1926 to Fred and Matilda Greer in Langdon.
She married Gerald Raines on April 9, 1948 in Hutchinson. He survives.
She attended school in Langdon where she was valedictorian of her graduating class. She then graduated from the University of Colorado.
She was a teacher for many years in Kansas public schools in Sylvia, Burton, Plains, Ulysses and Winfield.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe.
She was active in several organizations, including Delta Kappa Gamma and the National Education Association.
She enjoyed planning trips, traveling, spending time with her family and sharing her love of books with others.
She is also survived by two sons, Doug Raines and wife, Joanne, Lenexa, and Randy Raines, Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Vicki Raines and partner, Sandy Baker, Liberal; one brother, John Greer and wife, Virginia, Langdon; three grandchildren, Madelyn, John Henry and Dayton Raines, all of Lenexa; and other relatives and friends.
o Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe.
Memorials are suggested to the Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Raod, Kansas City, Mo. 64145, or to the family so they can purchase books for elementary school libraries in Frances’s name.
