Goldie May Dodson, 101, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Salem Home in Hillsboro.
She was born Aug. 2, 1911 to Doug and Ora Etta (Correll) Shields in Dennis.
She married Durward C. Dodson on Oct. 9, 1929, in Labette. He died Feb. 19, 1989.
She attended Dennis High School where she graduated in 1929.
She worked alongside her husband for 47 years in the jewelry shop they founded in Moline. She also worked as the City Clerk of Moline before retiring in 1988.
She was a member of the Moline Baptist Church and the American Baptist Women. She transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church in Winfield in 1993.
She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors for more than 40 years where she was active in many community activities.
She enjoyed studying history and traveling. Her travels on bus trips took her to many places, including Nashville, Branson, Eureka Springs, Denver, Galveston and Wisconsin.
She is survived by her three granddaughters, Patty Austin, Liberal, Pamela Collins, Matfield Green, and Dayla Nelson, Florence.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dale Dodson; a granddaughter, Connie Reid and a great-granddaughter, Jeris Wunderlich.
o Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Moline Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at the Moline Cemetery.
