When the Liberal Redskins opened the season Saturday against Woodward, there was one key difference in the game.

The Boomers were playing their sixth game of the season, and the Redskins were playing their first.

And it showed.

Liberal committed three errors while the Boomers played a flawless game, and the Redskins dropped the season opener 7-4.

Liberal kept the game close early.

Woodward scored a run in the first inning before chasing Colin Ware off the mound in the top of the third with three runs.

Christian Hernandez relieved Ware and gave up two more runs in the top of the fourth.

Liberal was able to cut into the Boomer lead by scoring two in the bottom of the fourth to narrow the gap to 6-2.

Hernandez pitched a scoreless fifth, and the Redskins had their best scoring opportunity in the bottom of the fifth by loading the bases with no outs.

The Redskins were able to score two runs to cut the Boomer advantage to 6-4, but that is all they would get.

Freshman Jared Hasik came in relief in the sixth and seventh innings and gave up one run.

Liberal did not score in the final two innings and ended with the loss.

Liberal started five freshmen in the first game of the season and did not have a senior on the roster.

Hasik led at the plate with a two-for-four performance. Ware went one-for-two and scored a run.

Tim Fitzgerald went one-for-four and scored a run.

Brandyn Terrazas went one-for-two with a double.
