Bernaline Blanche “Sally” (Foster) Martin was born January 4, 1928, in Pawnee City, NE, to Bernie U. Foster and Mary Aline (Green) Foster. She died March 22, 2013 in Liberal, KS.
Sally graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1946 and attended the University of Nebraska. She married John F. Martin on February 17, 1950, in Pawnee City. They lived in Pawnee City, Fullerton, and Columbus, NE and Topeka, KS before moving to Liberal, KS in 1962.
She is survived by her husband, John; five children, Sara Martin of Vancouver, WA; Pat Martin of Wichita, KS; Sally Odom of Yukon, OK; Joe Martin of Dallas, TX; Mike Martin of Merriam, KS; one brother, Dan Foster of Hayesville, NC; one sister, Susan Adams of Vermillion, KS; sixteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sally worked at Peoples Travel Agency from which she retired in 1991 after traveling the world. She served on the USD 480 Board of Education for 12 years where she served as president and was instrumental in getting the new high school built. She was a lifetime member of the Southlawn School PTA and the Liberal High School PTA, serving as president for both organizations. While serving at Southlawn, she was instrumental in starting the Bicycle Safety Program. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
