Colby used the long ball to knock off Seward 10-0 in the opening game of a double header Wednesday, but the Lady Saints returned the favor with a 17-0 shutout in Game 2.

Brittney Sharkey struggled in the circle in the opener, giving up 11 hits and seven runs including two home runs in the second inning.

Katelyn Craker came on in relief but only recorded one out while giving up three runs on two hits.

Kendall Derkson then came in to get the final two outs.

But Seward struggled at the plate and only managed two hits against Colby’s Skyler Mengel.

In Game 2, Seward’s bats came to life, and Colby struggled to get hits against Brittany Hopkins.

Colby only managed one hit against Hopkins while the Lady saints took advantage of five Lady Trojan errors and belted out 12 hits in a 17-0 win.

After Mengel baffled the Lady Saints in Game 1, Seward lit her up in the first inning of the second game.

Seward scored seven runs, and Mengel was relieved after recording two outs.

Natalie Elmgreen took over for the Lady Trojans, but the Lady Satins continued to pound the Lady Trojan pitcher. After three hits and two runs, Elmgreen was relieved in the second inning by Erin Miller,

Two hits and five runs later, Miller was replaced by Courtney Kinnett who gave up three runs.

Samantha Phelps went two for three and scored five RBIs, and Michelle Duford had two hits and three RBIs for Seward.

Rachel Shockley, Marissa Chavez, Stephanie Mark, Duford and Phelps all hit doubles in the win.

Seward (21-16, 4-4) will step out of conference play Friday and travel to Colorado to face Otero in a double header. The first game is slated for 1 p.m..
