Liberal man dies in 1-vehicle roll-over PDF Print E-mail

A single vehicle roll-over just northeast of town took the life of a Liberal man Monday and hospitalized another.
William Demetice Pugh, 42, of Liberal, was driving a 2001 Western Star truck eastbound on County Road 6 just .6 of a mile east of U.S. Highway 54, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, when he drove off he right side of the roadway at 3:20 p.m., overcorrected and crossed the road and entered the north ditch. The truck then rolled one time
Pugh was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.
His passenger, 49-year-old Richard Lynn File, also of Liberal, was transported to Southwest Medical Center for treatment.
The report noted Pugh was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the inceident, however, no such information was provided about File.
Southwest Medical Center refused earlier today to release the condition or status of File.
