The Lady Redskins completed a season sweep over Great Bend Thursday with a 5-0 win over the Lady Panthers at Redskin Field.

All five goals came from different Lady Redskins.

Liberal had the advantage of a strong wind in the first half and used that along with solid ball movement to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Jasmine Chacon started the scoring with a goal off an assist from Crystal Vela with 30:30 to play in the first half. Vela then added a one-on-one goal when she broke away from the Great Bend defense with 24:40 to play in the first half to give the Lady Redskins a 2-0 lead.

The ball stayed on the Lady Panther half of the field for most of th first half, and Amelia Juarez took advantage of a free kick from the right side of the goal that deflected off a Lady Panther and into the goal with 19:18 to play in the first half that gave Liberal a 3-0 lead.

Great Bend used the wind in the second half to keep the ball at midfield but struggled to penetrate the Lady Redskin defense. Joanna Campos added a goal into a stiff breeze with 30:58 to play in the game, and Jasmine Chacon added a goal with 28:03 to play for the 5-0 lead.

Goalkeeper Magali Vazquez had seven saves for the shutout win.

“I really like how everybody is scoring,” Liberal coach Kristen Dolen said. “It is great for this season and other seasons to come.”

Liberal will continue in the Western Athletic Conference play Monday at Dodge City. Liberal (4-3, 2-1) is seeking to stay at or above .500 in th WAC this season.

“It’s always tough to play Dodge,” Dolen said. “They are a rival. We haven’t beat them in a  while. We have to work on possessing the ball and controlling the center of the field.”
