FOWLER – Frances L. Elffner, 71, died Friday, April 12, 2013, at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover.
She was born June 30, 1941, to Ira Francis and Agnes Mae (Golliher) Salmon in Dodge City.
She married Fritz Elffner June 6, 1964, in Fowler. He died Jan. 1, 1999.
She attended the Fowler school system, graduating from Fowler High School. She later attended Emporia State University receiving her master of library science degree.
She began her teaching career, teaching in Meade, Plains and Southwestern Heights. In Colorado, she served as the district librarian for the Poudre School District.
She was currently a member of the Fowler Library Board, Fowler Cemetery Board, the Lakeview Club, Meade County Historical Society, the Meade County Genealogical Society and served as president of the Fowler Senior Citizens Book Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Terri Elffner and husband, Wesley Martin, Denver; one brother, David Salmon and wife, Carol, Fowler; and one grandson, Logan Martin, Denver.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Francie Elffner, and an infant sister.
• Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Fowler United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding.
Burial will follow at the Fowler Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m. at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
Memorials are suggested to the Fowler Library or the Meade County Historical Society in care of the funeral home.
