Patricia Rodriguez-Beer graduated from Liberal High School in the Class of 2004. She then went on to get an associate’s degree of science from Seward County Community College/Area Technical School in 2005.
She continued her education at Kansas State University earning a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business, then a master’s in business administration.
Now, she is currently working for ConAgra Foods and has been called the face of ConAgra.
All day Friday, Patricia spoke to nearly 300 current LHS students. Kathy Croy, of LHS Teen Leadership, was a key part of having Rodriguez-Beer here to speak with several different class groups from Team Leadership, LHS Entrepreneurship and AVID.
Rodriguez-Beer wanted students to know that her parents did not go to college, but that is no reason why they can’t go. She said anyone could go to college, they just have to want it bad enough.
She started saving for college early. Just putting a few dollars away for college every paycheck adds up fast and can give one that extra money they may need.
Education is just one of five keys she pointed out that are important in career building.
The way she met people and networked with teachers and others is one of the ways that allowed her to get her master’s degree.
Knowing a department head allowed her to be able to get a job at the school while working on her master’s. She pointed out that meeting peoples today could be the key tomorrow.
Other key points – to be careful with money, to dress for success and to be punctual.
“Make it a point that in corporate America, if you’re not 10 minutes early, then you are late,” she said.
One of the students wanted to know what was Patricia’s long term goals.
“I may someday be a president of human resources or … you never know where things may take me,” she responded.
