Local landowners gather Wednesday for a wind energy seminar with speakers available to explain what is in the best interest of the landowner rather than the project developers. “An attorney from Meade gave many different options for the leases that the developers come to talk to the landowners about,” said economic development director Colleen Towns. “He discussed things that landowners need to be aware of that he has seen on different leases.” She stated wind leases should be treated the same as oil and gas leases. She added it was important for the landowners to understand contracts presented to them in order to not lose their land and/or mineral rights in the process.
