For the third time in a week, there is a new leader in the Liberal Cal Ripken League.
A Rockies loss to the Royals earlier in the week opened the door in a competitive league, and the White Sox took the opportunity, along with two wins, to jump to the top of the standings with only two games remaining.
Earlier in the week, the Cardinals took the top spot with a win over the Tigers, but the White Sox used a make-up game Wednesday to defeat the A’s 13-8.
Friday, the two teams squared off again, and while the game was much closer, the White Sox were still able to get the win, 9-8.
That leaves the White Sox with two games in the season, and Thursday’s match-up with the Royals will be critical for both teams in the hotly contested league race.
Another key game will be Monday’s clash between the Cardinals and Rockies. The winner will stay in contention, but it would be difficult for the loser to recover.
