Races return to Seward County Speedway Friday with the first-ever appearance of the United States Touring Series.
The upscale event is one of the many improvements promoter Glen Thompson has made to racing in Liberal.
“These are the best guys in the nation,” Thompson said. “This is just under the World of Outlaws. These were featured on the Versus TV series.”
There will be a $25,000 purse for the stock car and USMTS event that is part of a nine-day Race Week event that starts in Wichita tonight, continues in Liberal Friday and will feature drivers in a new community each night in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and as far as Minnesota.
“These are definitely the fastest modifieds on dirt,” Thompson said.
As many as 50 of the USMTS cars are expected to tackle the D-shaped track at Seward County Speedway.
The event is another step Thompson has taken to provide the highest quality fan experience by bringing in the top racers from across the nation.
“This is the biggest racing event ever in Liberal,” he said.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and racing starts at 7 p.m.
