Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Jeremiah Wilson, and I am the new sports reporter for the Leader&Times.
I was born in a small town in Illinois some 33 years ago. However, I have spent the better part of the last 30 years here in Liberal. I am currently a student at Seward County Community College, majoring in journalism.
I have an extreme passion for all sports. It does not matter what the sport is — if there is something going on in the world of sports, I want to know about it. I would have to say that ever since about the age of 10 I have been not so much a fan, but more of a fanatic.
Of all sports though, baseball is easily my favorite. I am a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan that cannot wait to see the day that Oscar Taveras finally steps into the batter’s box at Busch Stadium. I love the fact that the Cardinals have the best farm-system in the majors. The future looks brighter than ever for them.
I have other interests outside of sports as well, including poker, trivia, movies, games of all sorts and politics.
I had the opportunity to play in the World Series of Poker in 2007, and I have a wealth of useless knowledge. I would also consider myself ultra-conservative and 100 percent pro-life.
But at the end of the day, sports are what I really enjoy the most.
Of all of my hobbies, fantasy sports is easily my favorite. Fantasy baseball, fantasy football, fantasy basketball — if there is a fantasy team I can build, I will build it. I remember my first exposure to the fantasy sports world back in 1998. I had a fantasy football team, and drafted a rookie quarterback by the name of Peyton Manning. Ever since then, I have been hooked.
I am very excited about the opportunity to write for the Leader&Times, and I look forward to being able to bring the latest sports news from Liberal and the surrounding area to the community.
