The Cimarron River Rattlers beat Stevens County Monday night 12-2 to win the Cal Ripken 12-and-under District 1 championship.
The Rattlers consistently put runners on base and found ways to bring them home. Cimarron River scored at least one run in every inning that was played.
The game was called in the fourth inning due to the 10-run rule.
Cimarron River was led by Jett Brown and Alex Ynez, who each had a home run. Ynez was also the starting pitcher for the Rattlers.
Cimarron River dominated the district tournament, winning all four games by run rule and advancing to the state tournament with momentum.
The Rattlers finished the season with an overall record of 29-6.
Some of the highlights of the season included last night’s win, along with a 22-3 win over Stevens County and a 12-0 shutout of Grant County.
The state tournament begins at noon Friday in Wellington. Liberal will begin the tournament with a game against Fort Scott at 4 p.m.
Other opening round games in the tournament include Derby versus the District 4 champion at noon, Osawatomie versus Stevens County at 2 p.m., and Wellington versus Paola at 7 p.m.
