MEADE - Larry Joe Walter, 75, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at Meade District Hospital in Meade.
He was born Nov. 21, 1937,  to Lawrence B. and Vivian (Proctor) Walter, Topeka, Kan.
He married Sondra Kay Fair Jan. 12, 1963, at Alden, Kan.
As a young boy he attended the Dighton, Kan., school system, graduating from Dighton High School in 1955.
After his graduation, he joined the United States Navy for several years.  Upon his discharge, he attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1964. 
After completing his undergraduate degree, he began his career in banking.  In 1974 he moved to Meade from Baxter Springs, Kan., and worked in the banking industry for many years. He worked at Turon State Bank, Turon, Kan., American National Bank, Baxter Springs, 1st National Bank, Meade, and served as President and Chairman of the Board, State Banking Department as a bank examiner, chairman of the board for Banker's Bank of Kansas, and the Citizens Bank of Kansas, Winfield, Kan.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church; the Lions Club, serving as a past president; the Meade Housing Authority, serving as a past president; and the Compassionate Care Center.
He is survived by his children, Judi Sickler and husband, Terry, Kearney, Neb.; Eric Walter and wife, Crystal, Clearwater; Clay Walter and wife, Brooke, Andover; a sister,                                    Twila Ellis, Wichita; eight grandchildren, Vince, Claire, Hannah Sickler,  Jacob, Jack Walter, Paige Maxfield, Joseph and Benjamin Walter.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Susan Lewis.
• Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Meade. Private family inurnment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
In lieu of flowers the family would welcome memorials to the Beam Senior Center in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
