Leonard W. Spady, 90, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Jan. 13, 1923, to Wilbert and Bertha (Gaede) Spady in Texas County, Okla.
He married Marjoria Gordon on June 1, 1946, in Liberal. She survives.
He attended Lemon Country School in Texas County, Okla.
He enlisted into the U.S. Army during WWII at Fort Sill, Okla., and served in Calcutta, India, as a lineman in the field artillery.
He was a mechanic for years, then worked for Able Dirt Construction, then the Seward County Landfill for 17 years. He was a crane operator for Liberal Iron & Metal for 17 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Lane Day Post #3166.
Survivors also include one brother, Donald Spady, Mannassas, Va.; three grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dwayne Spady; one brother; and five sisters.
o Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Jack Jacob presiding.
Friends may visit from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family receiving from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
