ABOVE: Volunteers from First Southern Baptist Church hand out free sno cones to the public at National Night Out on Tuesday night at Blue Bonnet Park. This event was put together by local law enforcement agencies. Along with the police and fire departments, the Parks and Recreation Department and several churches joined forces to make the night go smoothly. The purpose of National Night Out was to inform the public about being safe in the community and staying vigilant of crime, while providing free food and games. This year marked the 30th anniversary of the event, and despite gloomy weather, the park was teeming with people. For more photos of the event, see PAGE 5A. L&T photo/Victoria Calderon
