The Turpin School Board voted 5-0 Tuesday night to petition the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association to play 8-man football starting in 2014.

The meeting was held in the auditorium to allow adequate room for the public that attended. There was an open session where the public was allowed to voice their opinion and ask questions before the vote took place.

Turpin will play 11-man this season as the fourth smallest school outside of 8-man. Even with the move to 8-man, Turpin will still be in the lower half of enrollment in Class B.

This season will mark 30 years since Turpin made the move to 11-man. Turpin won two state titles and finished runner-up twice in.

Before the move 30 years ago Turpin had been won of the premiere 8-man schools in the state winning six state titles and finishing runner-up several times.

Turpin played in the first ever 8-man state championship game in 1959, and will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first state championship in 1963 this season.
