After building a 25-pin lead heading in to the third and final game against Garden  City Tuesday at Ayr Lanes, the Lady Redskins turned struggled in the finale while the Lady Buffaloes finished on a high. The result was a stinging 28-pin loss for Liberal.

Kimberly Vanley did what she could, bowling a 208 in the third and final game and leading the team with a 572 series. Shaylee Scruggs knocked on the 200 door with a 184 and 197 but finished with a 1659 in the final game.

While the Lady Redskins struggled, Garden City’s Ashley Kells had a team-leading 235 in the third ganme to give the Lady Buffaloes the come-from-behind win.

“We just haven’t found a way to stay consistent in all three games yet,” Liberal coach Eric Steiner said. “In the girls game, we lost focus. We didn’t hit our mark.”

In boys varsity action, the Redskins trailed early and never recovered.

The end result was a 326-pin loss.

Josh Mitchell led the team  with a 592 series, and Jared Hall had a 571.

“Some of these guys have never bowled varsity before,” Steiner said. “We’ve started to settle down and know what it’s all about.”

Liberal’s junior varsity boys earned a 40-pin win over Garden City.  Matthew McLane led the Redskins with a 543 series. Dakin Baier had the high game with a 195.

Liberal will travel to Wichita Monday to face Wichita South and will return to Ayr Lanes Feb. 4 to host Great Bend and recognize the seniors.
