TYRONE — It was an unusual night for the Turpin Cardinals who's offense typically comes from their guards. The big guys in the paint took care of the points tonight as Turpin defeated Tyrone 68-30.

Post player Braydon Robinson poured in 22, and Cale Longhofer and Adam Keefe each added 8 in the paint.

"We wanted to emphasize getting the ball inside and attack, and we did," said Turpin coach Gary Wallace. "Braydon and Cale dominated on the inside. I keep telling them if we want to be where we want to be, which is the state tournament we have to do have inside and outside game."

But it was not all post play, with Turpin's guards hitting three three's in the first period to make a 6-2 game 15-4 in a short amount of time.

Turpin led 18-4 at the end of the first period, and pushed the lead to 26 in the second before taking a 38-13 lead to the locker room.

"Our guys had a hard time adjusting to their speed," said Bobcat coach Clay Witt. "I thought our effort was their we just came up on the short end."

Turpin's lead went to 30 on Rogelio Regelado's three-pointer with 2:10 left in the third, as reserves came in to finish the game.

Turpin's Coach Wallace sees the potential of his post players and what that can mean for the success of his entire team.

"I believe Cale and Braydon can score on about anybody who guards them. I tell them all the time no one is going to double you, because our guards are to good."

Tyrone's Coach Witt was impressed as well.

"That is the best team we've played all season. It's a senior laden team that I think is going to make a deep run in the playoffs."

Tyrone did not have anyone reach double figures, but Austin Olivas led the Bobcats with 9, and Tyler Lai added 7.

Turpin will host Laverne Friday for homecoming, and Tyrone will host Keyes.
