A Liberal man has been sentenced to 32 months in prison on charges initially stemming from a June 21, 2012, incident.
Jorge Almeida, 30, is facing jail time after pleading no contest to one count of sexual exploitation of a child, according to Seward County Attorney Don Scott.
“He was sentenced to prison Aug. 2 for 32 months on just that one charge,” Scott said.
Almeida had originally been arrested in October of 2012 on a charge of indecent solicitation of a child. He was released on bond but was extradited back to Seward County after a November 2012 arrest in Cimarron County, Okla.
Almeida was then charged with aggravated intimidation of a witness, according to Scott, and Boise City, Okla., officials indicated he was being held on that charge. He was also facing arraignment on unlawful acts with computers, alleged electronic solicitation, criminal sodomy, promoting obscenity to minors and attempted sexual exploitation of a child.
Almeida’s last arrest came at the March 4 meeting of the Seward County Commission where he was photographing the meeting for a Facebook page he worked on. He was arrested on a warrant pertaining to a charge of alleged sexual exploitation of a child and also charged with unlawful acts with computers, alleged electronic solicitation, criminal sodomy, promoting obscenity to minors and attempted sexual exploitation of a child.
Scott confirmed Monday Almeida is still in custody at the Seward County Jail.
“The DOC (Department of Corrections) is just waiting for a bed to open up, and he’ll be transferred to a state prison,” Scott said, adding the DOC will decide which prison he will serve his time in.
Back in early April, Almeida had waived his right to preliminary hearings in the cases, and Scott said Almeida would not enter a plea on the charges at that time.
