The director of Cimarron American Red Cross Sherry Helmke presents the Liberal Fire Department with an award Wednesday morning for winning the Battle of The Badges, a competition of local emergency responders competing against each other to see who can donate the most blood. This is the fifth consequtive year that the Liberal Fire Department wins the award. “They always win,” Helmke said.  Fire Chief Kelly Kirk said that it’s nice for people to come out and donate. “They think enough of us, to vote for us, to vote for the Fire Department. And as far as working with Sherry and the ladies at the blood drive, they mean so much for us that is the least we can do to help out,” Kirk said. L&Tphoto/Giseelle Arredondo
