Mid America Air Museum director Jim Bert shows Golden Plains Credit Union’s Laura Dohrman, center, and Karen Crotinger some of the robotics children use in MAAM’s robotics courses. Golden Plains presented a donation Thursday to Bert for the robotics program. Golden Plains Credit Union also gave the first donation a year and a half ago. “It’s really the Golden Plains Credit Union that helped us start the robotics program,” Bert said. “The robotics program is an international organization called “FIRST” (For Inspiration and Respect of Science Technology), and It’s got a quarter million kids around the world and about 30,000 teams.” Last year, in Kansas, the organization started with four teams, and this year, there are 16 teams from 12 different towns. “It’s my hope that in a couple of years we’ll have 70 teams within a 100-mile radius,” Bert added.
