FORT WORTH, Texas – William Caroll “Bill” Stafford, 69, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Universal Hospice Care Facility in Fort Worth, Texas.
He was born March 22, 1940, to Louis Carroll and Delores (Thayer) Stafford in Russell.
He married Mary Jane Goetz Feb. 17, 1958.
He then married Donna Riddle Nov. 4, 1987. She survives.
He worked for R.C. Williams Trucking in Russell. He also worked in the oilfield, later owning his own oilfield trucking company. In 1986, he began working for Consolidated Freightways until his retirement in 2004. He also worked part-time for National Carriers in Dallas and Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie, Texas.
He enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing and the Dallas Cowboys.
Survivors include one son, Kenny Stafford and wife, Laura, Arlington, Texas; four daughters, Jane Eisenhauer and husband, Stever, Debbie Stafford, Sandy Nix and husband, Phil, and Laurie Carr and husband, Scott, all of Liberal; two stepsons, Gary Riddle and wife, Kelly, Keller, Texas, and Brian Riddle and wife, Mona, Liberal; one stepdaughter, Shawnda Mendenhall and husband, Lex, Grand Prairie; one brother, J.B. Collins, Barstow, Calif.; sisters, Donna Neal and husband, Brian, Topeka, Janice Pearson, Madison, Miss., Judy Hurla and husband, Mike, Topeka, Diane Modrin and husband, Larry, Terrelverda, Fla., Jolene Burrow and husband, Jim, Colleyville, Texas, and Jackie Cooper and husband, Kip, Lawrence; eight grandchildren, Jared Nix and wife, Andrea, Hugoton, Jeremy Nix, Liberal, Jacob Nix, Ulysses, Matt Carr and wife, Adrienne, Liberty, Mo., Bradley Carr and wife, Brittny, Liberal, Megan Carr, Manhattan, Lindsey Stafford and Stone Stafford, Arlington; six stepgrandchildren, Kandle Pierce and husband, Neil, Keller, Justin, Jandee and Jordan Riddle, Liberal, Chelsey Weaver and Blake Mendenhall, Grand Prairie, Lexi Hill, Austin, Texas, and Renee Mendenhall, Richardson, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Corbin and Lauren Nix, Hugoton, Scarlett Carr, Liberal; one stepgreat-grandchild, Kennedy Pierce, Keller; one brother-in-law, Bernie Burkhart, Salina; and many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Carol Burkhart; and one grandson, Tanner Lee Stafford.
o A celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield, Texas.
