Liberal’s Yard of the Week PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 19 August 2013 11:51

The next yard of the week belongs to Jean Ann Foster. She has lived at 709 N. Prospect since 2007, and the only things in the landscape when she arrived were three large elms in the front and a lilac and rose of sharon in the back. The elms, with all their wonderful shade, have dictated what kind of things can be planted. The beds along the front of the house contain hostas, coral bells, and bleeding hearts. The inviting front porch has a large pot with begonias and two hanging spider plants. A planting area along the driveway, which receives more sun, has been planted with Kim lilacs, rosemary, columbine, coreopsis and a crepe myrtle. A pretty birdbath adds more color and a spot for the birds to cool off. Following the driveway to the back will find a narrow planting bed which expands into a corner area. Jean Ann has planted salvia, goldenrod, foxglove, butterfly bush, gaillardia, coneflower, asters, and a large yucca to name a few. When entering the backyard, the first thing noticed is a wonderful covered deck which has the look of a comfortable room. What a wonderful place to sit and read a book. Jean Ann has put in a number of beds in the back, and she has added a large variety of plants to each of them. She has also added ornamental grasses and shrubs like weigela, hardy hibiscus and crepe myrtles. A new planting of two tiger eye sumac will add a lot of interest to the yard. Honeysuckle and sweet autumn clematis will give color and fragrance. Take some time to locate this residence to see how much Jean Ann loves plants and to tend to all she has added to this landscape.
