Yard of the Week PDF Print E-mail

320 Sunflower is the final yard of the week for the season. The residence is owned by Amy and Scott Hinkle, and they have lived there since 2002. This landscape is such a good example of a low maintenance yard. There is a small area of pristine grass in the front and back. It is almost a backdrop for all the wandering beds and their contents. There was a maple tree in the front when the Hinkles moved in, and they planted another one. The three beds in the front are outlined with brick and pavers. Small river rock is the mulch which surrounds all the plant material including a nice variety of ornamental grasses. Some of these grasses include blue fescue, hameln, sedges, and ponytail. Also found in these beds are hostas, ice plant, barberry, sedums, ajuga, and salvia. A walk to the front door allows the visitor to observe all these plants and to arrive at the door and its cozy porch with hanging asparagus ferns and a small table and chairs. Two large planters filled with two colors of sweet potato vine stand next to the garage. The back yard has two Bradford pear trees and more of those wonderful beds. Ornamental grasses are the highlight of these areas. A large wood deck, partially covered, allows for shade or sun. A pond, which has been shaded with a wood structure, allows the owners to enjoy the fish, waterfall and the bloomimg water lilies. More large pots filled with marigolds and vinca add color to the deck. Why not drive by this residence to see the wonderful landscape that the Hinkles have created and how a low maintence yard can still be a beautiful yard. Courtesy photo
