Quarterback Jett Little busted lose Friday night in Lakin, leading the Meade Buffaloes to a 41-13 win over the Lakin Broncs.
Little carried the ball 28 times for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Little added 37 yards and a touchdown through the air, as the Buffalo offense decimated the Bronc defense.
“He (Little) played very well,” Meade coach Scott Moshier said. “We kept it on the ground. We really wanted to establish ourselves there.”
Little scored four-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give Meade a 7-0 lead.
Running back Morgan Olvera scored twice in the second, on a one yard run, and five yard run, to put the Buffaloes up 21-0 at the half.
Olvera had 100 yards rushing on 15 carries for Meade.
“(Morgan) Olvera had some cramping issues,” Moshier said. “Jett (Little) had too many carries once Olvera came out. We need to take a little bit of the burden off of some of our kids.”
Morgan Davis took a pass from Little 37 yards for a touchdown in the third, Davis’ only reception on the night.
Lakin would get on the board with just under four minutes remaining in the third on a 14-yard run by running back Robert Aparicio.
The Buffaloes wasted little time retaliating, marching the ball down the field and scoring on a one-yard touchdown run by Little.
Meade had a comfortable 34-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Lakin running back Gage McAtee scored on a one-yard run to make it 34-13.
Fittingly, Little ended the night with a 14-yard scamper into the end zone to put the game away for Meade, 41-13.
The win is the first of the season for the Buffaloes (1-1), the defending 2A state champs.
Even with the win, coach Moshier still sees room for improvement.
“Our pass coverage is not where we need it to be due to injuries and illness,” Moshier said. “But these kids are a pretty quick study, and are learning how to fill the holes. We just need to continue to improve.”
Meade travels to Kismet next week to take on the Southwestern Heights Mustangs.
