L&T staff report

The Lady Redskins tennis team competed in the Great Bend invite Saturday, but but struggled to take advantage of opportunities as they arose.

“Emotions ran amuck,” Redskin coach Brett Irby said. “Our girls battled hard, but came up short after a grueling nine-hour tournament.”

In singles play, Stephanie Sanchez finished 0-6 on the day, and Tierra Stoney went 2-4.

The team of Jordyn Apsley and Marina Arenivas finished 1-5, while the team of Kylie Evans and Marissa Rodriguez also finished 1-5.

Other competing teams included Dodge City, Ellinwood, Garden City, Great Bend, Nickerson and Wakeeney.

Great Bend dominated team honors with 52 points, followed by Garden City with 43 points and Wakeeney with 35 points. Liberal tied for fifth with nine points.

The Lady Redskins will travel to Ulysses today to make up a rained out tournament from last Thursday.
