The Seward County Lady Saints took part in the 2013 Pizza Hut Classic at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. over the weekend. The Lady Saints went 2-2, including a win over North Platte, the No. 11 ranked team in Division II.
Seward started the tournament off Friday against the red-hot Otero Rattlers. The Lady Saints jumped out to early leads in every set, and came away with the shutout victory in three straight sets, 25-20, 25-14, 25-21.
The Northeastern Plainswomen were next up for Seward. After dropping the first two sets, the Lady Saints battled back to take the third and fourth sets to force the fifth and deciding set.
The Plainswomen proved to be too strong, and took the set 15-9 to win the match in five sets, 25-13, 25-16, 16-25, 21-25, 15-9.
The Lady Saints looked to regroup on Saturday, taking on No. 16 North Idaho. Seward struggled to get going in the match, resulting in a straight set defeat, 25-21, 25-13, 25-14.
In their final match of the weekend, Seward took on the Knights of North Platte. Despite dropping the opening set, the Lady Saints dominated the final three sets to win 22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-15.
Following the 2-2 finish, Seward now sits at 8-7 on the season.
The Lady Saints will take on Garden City next at 6:30 Wednesday in the Greenhouse before hitting the road once again on Friday when they travel to Torrington, Wyo. to take part in the Wyo-Braska Shootout.
