MEADE – Arah J. Skalicky, 89, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Meade District Hospital.
She was born Feb. 11, 1924, to Pleasant B. and Hazel (Dean) Gray in Sweetland, Iowa.
She married Miles Joseph “Mike” Skalicky Oct. 17, 1951, at the United Methodist Church in Meade. He died Dec. 13, 2005.
She graduated from Fort Madison (Iowa) High School.
For several years, she worked as a cashier for Randy’s Market in Meade. She was a mother and a homemaker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Meade.
She enjoyed dancing and traveling to various locations in the United States and abroad.
She is survived by her son, Mitchell Skalicky and wife, Ana, Mexico City; one brother, Richard Gray and wife, Nell, Stratford, Okla.; and two grandchildren, Capt. Michael Skalicky, Beaufort, S.C., and Caroline Skalicky, Tucson, Ariz.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Victor Gray; and two sisters, Naomi Pandurovich and Vivian Quackenbush.
• Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Meade.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
Burial will follow at the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
