Gene Kenney, 81, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Turpin, OK, passed away September 19, 2013 at his home in St. Ann’s Retirement Center. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 27, at Smith and Kernke Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 28, at St. Joachim Chapel, St. Ann’s Retirement Center in Oklahoma City followed by inurnment at Resurrection Cemetery, Oklahoma City. Gene was born in Carroll, IA to Blanche M. Harrington and John T. Kenney and was raised on the family farm outside of Vail IA. In 1958 he married Rita Patricia Lally. Gene was honorably discharged from the army after serving during the Korean War and attended the University of Iowa. He built a profession through various aspects of the grocery business. Gene was very proud of his Irish heritage and strong in his Catholic faith. He is preceded in death by his son, James Eugene, his parents, and his brothers, John, Charles, and Patrick. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Gannon of Des Moines IA, his daughters, Kathleen Stuck of Oklahoma City, Karen Roder of Canyon TX, and Eileen Kenney-Ivy of Tulsa, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
