ELKHART – Evelyn Joy Emmert, 83, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Morton County Assisted Living in Elkhart.
She was born March 26, 1930, to Doyle and Velma (Cass) Aaron in Wellington, Texas.
She married Thurman Emmert Nov. 22, 1945 in Wellington, Texas. He died April 8, 1999.
She was a pastor’s wife and busy homemaker. For 34 years, she and her husband pastored churches in Scott City, Wheeler, Texas, Manhattan, Sylvia, Elkhart, Derby and Palco. They retired back home in Wellington, Texas.
Survivors include sons, Mike Emmert and wife, Tammy, Elkhart, Rick Emmert and wife, J’Neen, Streetman, Texas, and Jeff Emmert and wife, Brenda K., Sunray, Texas; daughter, Brenda Grasz and husband, Donnie, Elkhart; brother, J.W. Emmert and wife, Eleanor, Sacramento, Calif.; sister, Patsy Sue Meyer and husband, Ron, Hugoton; step-sister, Nancy Harris and husband, Joe, Wellington, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jack; and six step-brothers and sisters.
• Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Nazarene in Elkhart, with Pastor Keith Davis presiding.
Graveside service will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fairview Cemetery in Wellington, Texas.
Friends may call until 7 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.
