A man who allegedly raped a child under the age of 14 in Liberal has been arrested after being on the lam for a decade.

Roberto Rodriguez, 45, listed as a resident of El Paso, Texas, was arrested and placed in the Seward County Jail Sept. 15 on a $50,000 cash surety bond.

Rodriguez had his first appearance in Seward County Dictrict Court on Sept. 17, according to Seward County Attorney Don Scott.

“He’s facing three counts of rape, three counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, one count of indecent liberties with a child and one count of aggravated intimidation of a witness,” Scott said. “He had a scheduling hearing today (Monday) and that was continued until 8:30 a.m. Nov. 18.”

Scott confirmed the alleged crimes happened in March 2003, and they were against a child under the age of 14 at the time.

Rodriguez is still in custody at the Seward County Jail under the $50,000 bond.
